OrthoPure™ XM

For meniscal augmention following a partial menisectomy

The meniscus is the shock absorbing cartilage which is found between the femur (thigh bone) and tibia (shin bone) . There are  two meniscal cartilages in the knee, one on the inner (medial) side and the other on the outer (lateral) side. Their function is to distribute the load from the thigh bone to shin bone easing the pressure that is transmitted through the knee and providing stability.  When these are damaged the function is compromised which can lead to degeneration of the joint articulating surfaces.

A meniscus tear can be treated by the removal (partial meniscectomy) or repair of the torn or damaged tissues. An alternative treatment option is a meniscal reconstruction which replaces part of the natural meniscus.

OrthoPure XM and HM products are implanted using standard recognized surgical techniques. When implanted they can support tissue healing and restoration by harnessing the regenerative potential within the body’s own cells and encouraging incorporation into the implanted scaffold to regenerate natural musculoskeletal structures.

OrthoPure XM (derived from  porcine meniscal tissue) is decellularised using dCELL Technology to make the implant biocompatible and to provide a biomechanically appropriate scaffold for cellular repopulation and eventual regeneration.
